To Our International Customers
Thank you very much for your continued patronage of our shop.
Today, we would like to share some background information with you, as “water” is the lifeblood of our towels.
Our towels are produced by manufacturers in the Imabari region of Shikoku. The Imabari region is the heartland of Japan’s towel industry. Located in the northwestern part of Shikoku’s Takanawa Peninsula, it is home to Mount Ishizuchi, the highest peak in western Japan. The underground water from the Sōja River, which flows through this area, is exceptionally well-suited for towel production.
Since this underground water is soft water, it contains low levels of calcium and magnesium, making it excellent for bringing out the natural properties of cotton. When washing and processing with hard water, minerals adhere to the fibers, causing the fabric to become stiff. Since soft water leaves few residues on the fibers, it preserves the natural softness and pleasant texture of the cotton. Furthermore, washing with soft water allows for finishing without compromising the cotton’s breathability or excellent absorbency.
The high quality of Imabari’s products also stems from the region’s traditional “saki-sarashi saki-zome” (pre-bleaching and pre-dyeing) method. This involves refining and bleaching each individual thread, dyeing it, and then weaving it into a towel. In other words, the finish is extremely meticulous and precise. The traditional craftsmanship of master artisans is condensed into this process.
Furthermore, production is not the end; we only ship our products after they have passed numerous rigorous inspections.
It is only after undergoing these processes that we can deliver our products to you, our valued customers. It can be difficult to tell the difference in a towel just by looking at it, but once you use it, I believe you will feel its quality. True comfort is created through the efforts of many sincere processes. We would be honored to help make those precious moments in our customers’ lives the very best.
